Write a thoughtful first message
Make an introduction easy to answer without creating pressure.
Refer to something they chose to share
Choose one detail from the person's description and ask a simple, open question. A message about a hobby or what they want from dating can be more useful than a long statement about yourself. Avoid assuming their interests, availability or preferences from a photograph.
Match the pace of the conversation
Let the other person decide how much to share. If they answer briefly, do not respond with increasingly personal questions. Ask before changing to an intimate subject. Share something about yourself too, so that the exchange feels like a conversation rather than an interview.
Accept that a reply is optional
People may be busy, undecided or uninterested. Repeated messages rarely clarify the situation. If you follow up, keep it brief and give them space; do not demand an explanation. When there is no reply, move on without treating silence as a personal judgement.
