Consent and boundaries in dating
Clarify what you welcome, what you do not want and how to change your mind.
Be specific about the next step
Consent to chatting does not mean consent to exchanging intimate photos or meeting. Discuss each next step separately. State your preferences plainly: ‘I am happy to keep talking here, but I do not want to exchange photos.’ A boundary does not require an argument or a detailed explanation.
Make changing your mind possible
People can feel differently after a conversation or a meeting. A previous agreement is not a debt. If either person hesitates, stop and ask what they want now. Silence, discomfort or the absence of a refusal should not be treated as agreement.
Notice how a boundary is received
A useful sign of conversational compatibility is how someone responds to a limit. Respectful responses leave space to pause or end the exchange. If you feel pressured, you can stop responding and use the available account controls. You do not have to continue a discussion simply to be polite.
